Salvia microphylla

I have a soft spot for this species plant, still found growing wild in the high mountains of Mexico, as it has been the parent of so many wonderful offspring.

With proper red flowers, boldly borne upon its slight but wiry stems, it is a tough, reliable and comforting plant.

Flowering from June until the first frosts, you get lots of garden value from this compact plant. When the cooler weather arrives you get a fresh display of flowers changing from red to artistic  pinkish with a dash of white.

Borderline hardy to - 10C
